The second article is about How to become a designer
According to the author, we first determine the design of the product and target the user. And to understand the user’s preferences and needs, and continuous improvement, the author uses new shoes as examples. After inventing new shoes, you need to keep testing. At this point, we want to create a user role, the incarnation of a group of similar people we interviewed. They reflect the experiences and tribulations of a single character. If we have multiple roles with different issues, we can create different roles to break down the use cases to be fixed. Characters have nothing to do with demographics, because someone’s wealth or cultural background has nothing to do with whether their shoe laces break at work. These are user constraints. We sometimes add too much functionality to our designs, because a blank canvas is scary. But learn to remove things. The more elements you have, the more questions you are asking the person who is supposed to use it. If too many things have the same level of importance, then nothing is important, and the core action is lost. You must break down the priorities.
Design is not a singular task. It’s a process of doing, or to be more specific, it’s a process of sculpting contrasts within constraints. Design is about figuring stuff out and fixing things. It takes time to master technical skills like drawing and working with type, but with time anyone can do it.
